PEBBLE MOSAIC

Sunset Magazine Award of Excellence Winner

  • A pebble mosaic ring with a dragon as a symbol of the circle of time

  • Minding the metaphor, the pebble mosaic encircles a circle of thyme

  • Now the hub of Vanessa's garden amongst other circles: like a crop circle, a meditation circle, a low-mow 'Fleur de Lawn' circle

After Vanessa designed the pebble mosiac, she invited Jeff Bale, Portland pebble mosaic artist, to install it. He came with enthusiasm, energy & wheelbarrow.

Project goals:

  • replace the blonde haze that was 'dying' to be lawn

  • include a path for the lawnmower to get to the remaining lawn

  • consider the garden's theme: peace through culture

Design concept:

A new plan:

  • Before you can implement something as intricate as this, it helps to have a full-scale plan. Because Vanessa uses AutoCAD for drafting, she was able to plot a full scale plan, immensely helping her installer.
